OVERVIEW

Brand identity project for an artisanal food company primarily sold at farmers markets producing a wide range of hot sauce, salsa, and other jarred compotes, jellies, and provisions. The owners expressed a fondness for Art Nouveau specifically how it was used in 1970's album artwork. They also wanted simple implementation of their labels with one main label being able to be used for all jarred and bottled goods they might produce.

Brand

After exploring multiple possible directions, both more simple and complex, around the 1970's Art Nouveau album art theme, the clients settled on this direction, being drawn to the type treatments and the representation of their mountains and lakes of their home in the Forgotten Corner area of Washington state. For smaller scales like social avatars and favicon, a mark leveraging the Flower was created, and a combo mark/wordmark using the Flower and "Chilis & Provisions" was also created for use in smaller placements on non-owned properties. properties.

Guidelines

I developed an extensive brand guide as, over the course of time, they may end up using multiple different vendors and creatives to help create and execute for them. This guide included details and guidelines for all brand marks, typography, color, packaging, and apparel.

Packaging

I created a clear vinyl sticker with the brand mark, location, and a field for variety and batch number to keep the label simple, flexible, and distinctive from standard farmers market jarred and bottled goods. These labels offer several advantages: they're easy to wipe and clean, moisture and waterproof to handle bottling mishaps, and versatile for use on both bottles and jars. For legally required information (nutrition, ingredients, certifications), they can print small back labels on-site using any preferred sticker paper. This approach provides flexibility as their needs change during growth.

Apparel

I created and delivered multiple "ready-to-print" vector files leveraging their logo with suggested Pantones for printing on white, off-white, black, and dark grey materials. Guidelines around creating new products were specified in the brand book I created so they could develop on-brand apparel and print materials as they grew and had new ideas.
